STEM at Leppington Childcare

At our centre, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is thoughtfully interwoven into learning experiences across all age groups — from our Nursery to Toddler and Preschool rooms. We believe that encouraging curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving from an early age lays the foundation for lifelong learning and critical thinking.

Sensory Play in Guma, (0-2 years)

In the Guma Nursery Room, STEM begins with simple sensory play and cause-and-effect experiences. Babies explore textures, sounds, and movement through water play, light exploration, and interactive toys, fostering early scientific thinking and curiosity.

Hands-on play in Girra Girra, (2-3 years)

In the Girra Girra Toddler Room, children begin to ask more questions and test ideas through hands-on play.

They explore basic concepts like gravity, balance, and measurement through building, pouring, sorting, and experimenting with natural and man-made materials — developing early maths and engineering skills without even realising it.

Experimenting in Gugara (3-4 years) & Kirrawee (4-5 years)

In the Gugara Skills Learning Room, and even more so in the Kirrawee Preschool Room, STEM learning becomes more intentional. Children engage in experiments, simple coding games, design challenges, and number-based activities that encourage inquiry, prediction, reasoning, and collaboration.

We guide children to ask questions, make observations, and problem-solve — helping them develop confidence in thinking critically and creatively.

STEM is important because it helps children make sense of the world around them. It nurtures their natural curiosity, promotes independence, and equips them with skills in logic, communication, innovation, and resilience — skills they will carry with them into school and beyond.
